The channel

Two ways to ride along

Long rides for the full journey — and Shorts built for the loop, where the road keeps moving while a single line settles in.

Motorcyclist riding a winding road into a golden sunset

Long-form rides

Full journeys on two wheels: lake roads, ridge lines, small towns, and the quiet stretches in between. Shot from the saddle around a home base in Ovid, NY — the Finger Lakes as they actually look at riding speed, in every season the weather allows.

The 15-second Shorts

One quip — ponder-worthy, hard-hitting, or just funny — set over the best fifteen seconds of road, scored with music by Ed Iseley. The clip loops while you read. Then it reads differently.

Home ground

Finger Lakes territory

Almost everything here is filmed and photographed within a short ride of Ovid — a home base in the center of the lakes, with a different loop out the door every day of the week.

Seneca Lake

The deep one — shoreline roads, vineyard climbs, and sunset runs down the west side toward Watkins Glen.

Cayuga Lake

The long one — forty miles of water, college towns, and farm roads rolling off the east shore.

Keuka Lake

The crooked one — the Y-shaped lake, bluff roads, and some of the best vineyard views in the region.

Gorge Country

Stone staircases, hemlock shade, and tiered waterfalls — the walks taken when the bike is parked.

Farm Roads

Barns, twin silos, rusty pickups in wildflower meadows — rural Americana, still working, still standing.

The art

The rider

About Howie

Howie McLaughlin is a photographer and videographer based in Ovid, New York — dead center of the Finger Lakes. He works behind the camera, not in front of it: a lightweight kit, a motorcycle, and a home territory he knows road by road.

The channels come and go; the creator remains. Everything Howie makes — the Highway Howie rides, the stock library, the prints — is published under his own name, and this site is where all of it comes home. The Shorts are scored by musician Ed Iseley, whose songs appear with his permission.

Off the bike, he's also the name behind Beebox Comics — but that's another road, over at beeboxcomics.com.

Good questions

Before you ask

Where is Highway Howie based?

Ovid, New York, in the heart of the Finger Lakes. Most rides and photographs are made within a short drive of home — Seneca and Cayuga lake country, gorge trails, vineyard roads, and farm country.

Can I license the footage or photos?

Yes. The library is on Pond5 and Adobe Stock under Howie McLaughlin, and direct licensing for local businesses and productions is available by email at highwayhowie@gmail.com.

Where can I buy the prints?

Through the Fine Art America gallery — all eight launch prints, with paper, canvas, framing, and sizes handled at checkout. New prints join the gallery as they're earned, and each one is pinned on Pinterest the same day.

Who makes the music in the Shorts?

Ed Iseley. His songs score the 15-second Shorts, used with his permission.

Can I suggest a road or a ride?

Yes — Finger Lakes riders especially. Send the road, the town, or the overlook to highwayhowie@gmail.com. The best suggestions become rides.
